Hello.

My name is Enoch “Shane” Smith, and I teach English at the 4C Academy. I have been teaching English since 2010. During that time, I have taught at every grade level from the 4th grade to college. My teaching journey has been a very diverse and incredible one, and it has molded me into the teacher that I am today.

I came to the 4C Academy in 2018 because I enjoy teaching college-level English, and I like helping dedicated high school students get a head start towards earning their college degrees. My specialty is teaching students in the dual enrollment programs at Albany State University and Albany Technical College. I collaborate with both schools to teach their Rhetoric/Composition, American Literature, and British Literature courses. Once a student has passed each of these courses, he/she receives credits towards a high school diploma and a college degree simultaneously!

I have lived all over the country, and my educational background reflects my life’s journey. I grew up in Gainesville, Georgia, where I received my high school diploma at North Hall High School. After high school, I became adventurous and moved out west. I earned two Bachelor of Arts degrees from The University of Nevada-Las Vegas in English and Film. I then moved to Orange County, California, where I got a Master of Fine Arts degree in creative writing from Chapman University. However, while living out west was a lot of fun, I was eventually drawn back home. Upon my return to Georgia, I went back to school and earned my Master of Arts degree from Georgia State University. I have been teaching English ever since.

I love being a teacher, and I find that helping high school students earn college credits is a very satisfying job. I encourage any student who is willing to accept the challenge to consider entering the dual enrollment program at ASU or ATC. The work is very challenging, and since my students get college credits for what they do in my class, I do hold them to a high standard. But for any student who is willing to accept the challenge and do the work that is necessary, the rewards of being a dual enrollment student are well worth the time and effort.
